Attempting to use Denon AVR 785 with Earthquake SUB80 subwoofer. When powered up there is a hum/buzz coming from the SUB80. Earthquake support suggests connecting a dedicated ground wire to the Denon AVR. Is there a correct way to do this?

Does the hum go away when you detach the cable system?

I'm with Flandon, I'd bet money that disconnecting the CATV eliminates the hum. Earthquake should know this!!!

Is the subwoofer on the same electrical circuit at the receiver?

Did you try a "cheater plug" adapter that takes a 3 prong down to 2? I have seen it work.

Non grounded plug does eliminate problem.

Would one of those dandy electrical testers indicate if the outlet is wired correctly?

Multiple gounded devices in a system can always be trouble.

I'm assuming you've tried disconnecting EVERYTHING from the system (ie. only have the receiver + sub connected together - no TV, DSS, whatever) and adding everything back one device at a time until the problem is narrowed down.

If you get a ground hum with JUST the receiver and subwoofer hooked together... you may not have many options.

Are there any VC in the system? Zone2 Internal amps w/ niles VC's? or Multichannel amps? It may also be bleed through from an unpowered down (analog) source?
